TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported a tectonic earthquake in Mane, Pidie Regency, Aceh, on Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, at 06:35 AM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The 5.3 magnitude earthquake does not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

According to the BMKG report, the earthquake's epicenter was on land at coordinates 4.88 degrees North Latitude and 96.05 degrees East Longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers. "This earthquake is a shallow earthquake due to the activity of an active fault with an oblique thrust fault movement mechanism," wrote Daryono, the Director of Earthquake and Tsunami at BMKG, in his official statement on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

The earthquake tremor was felt in Pidie with an intensity of III MMI. The vibration was palpable inside houses, resembling the passing of a large truck. Meanwhile, in Banda Aceh, the tremor was recorded at a II MMI scale, felt by some people and causing hanging objects to sway.

BMKG confirmed that as of 06:50 AM WIB, there have been no detected aftershocks. The public is urged to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified information.

"Ensure that official information is only obtained from BMKG through verified communication channels," said Daryono. He also urged residents to check the condition of their buildings and not return to homes with cracks or damage before ensuring safety.
