TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A coalition of civil society organizations plans to hold a rally outside the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta on Friday afternoon to protest Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP), an international initiative launched by United States President Donald Trump.
The Civil Society Coalition, which includes 98 organizations such as the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) and the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has called on the public to join the demonstration at 2 p.m. local time.
YLBHI chairperson Muhammad Isnur said the protest was also a response to several government policies, including Indonesia’s reciprocal trade agreement with the United States, the plan to deploy Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel to Gaza, and Indonesia’s involvement in the BoP.
The coalition also condemned the joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, 2026.
According to the coalition, the administration of President Prabowo Subianto has shown signs of aligning too closely with Washington by supporting policies promoted by the Trump administration, including the trade agreement that critics say could harm Indonesia’s national interests.
“Everything contradicts President Prabowo’s rhetoric about national sovereignty and the accusations often directed at the people’s movement as being influenced by foreign powers,” Isnur told Tempo on Friday, March 6, 2026. “The government is instead acting as a pawn of US imperialism.”
The coalition also criticized the structure and mandate of the Board of Peace, which was formally launched by Trump and several world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22.
According to the group, the BoP does not refer to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, which addresses the situation in Palestine. The coalition said the initiative also fails to include Palestinian representation in discussions related to the reconstruction of Gaza.
They further argued that the BoP is dominated by the United States, with Trump serving as its chair.
The coalition said the recent US-Israeli military strike on Iran has further undermined the credibility of the initiative, which it claims has shifted from promoting peace to supporting military escalation.
“The meaning of the Board of Peace has shifted into a ‘Board of War,’ which threatens global peace,” the coalition said in its statement.
Based on these concerns, the coalition said Indonesia’s participation in the BoP should be reconsidered.
“Indonesia should immediately withdraw from the BoP and declare a firm stance to exit the initiative,” Isnur said.
In a written statement, the coalition outlined eight demands to be voiced during the rally:
Reject the Indonesia–US trade agreement, which the coalition says harms the Indonesian public.
Urge the DPR and government to review all Indonesia–US trade agreements considered unfair or detrimental to national interests.
Call on the government and parliament to evaluate Indonesia’s commitment to the BoP Charter, which the coalition says does not align with UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
Reject the deployment of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel to Gaza without a mandate from the UN Security Council.
Evaluate government policies related to the US trade agreement and Indonesia’s involvement in the BoP.
Implement genuine agrarian reform and national industrial development to strengthen economic sovereignty.
Build a united people’s movement against imperialism, feudalism, and fascism.
Strengthen international solidarity with communities the coalition describes as oppressed worldwide.
