TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo announced that approximately 69,000 animals are estimated to be sacrificed in the capital city for this year's Eid al-Adha. "We estimate that around 69,000 animals will be slaughtered in Jakarta," Pramono said on Thursday, June 5, 2025, while inspecting a cow barn owned by the Regional Public Company (Perumda) Dharma Jaya in Cakung, East Jakarta.
According to Pramono, the Provincial Government has deployed 300 halal slaughterers for the upcoming Eid al-Adha, which falls on Friday, June 6, 2025. These butchers will be assigned to various locations designated for sacrificial animals across Jakarta.
Pramono also mentioned that the government has prepared 90 veterinary doctors to check the health of the sacrificial cows and goats. "Thus, we hope the implementation of Eid al-Adha tomorrow will run smoothly," said the former cabinet secretary.
This year's Eid al-Adha marks the first for Pramono Anung as Governor of Jakarta. The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was inaugurated as the head of the region on February 20, 2025.
Pramono stated that he will perform the Eid al-Adha prayer in Jakarta. However, he has not yet decided whether he will attend the prayer at Istiqlal Mosque or Fatahillah Mosque, located at Jakarta City Hall.
In addition to Pramono, President Prabowo Subianto will also perform the Eid al-Adha prayer in Jakarta this year. Last year, before his inauguration as president, Prabowo performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java.
The acting Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque, Mulawarman Hannase, confirmed that President Prabowo will attend the Eid al-Adha prayer at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta tomorrow.
Mulawarman added that after the Eid al-Adha prayer, President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will hand over the sacrificial animals to the Istiqlal Mosque's sacrificial animal committee. The slaughter of the President's and other Muslims' sacrificial animals at Istiqlal Mosque will take place a day after Eid al-Adha.
Mulawarman explained that this year's Eid al-Adha will be different from previous years. This time, the President's sacrificial cow will be cooked and served as a meal with orphans at Istiqlal. The sacrificial animal committee plans to invite two thousand orphans from the Greater Jakarta area.
"The meal at Istiqlal will be held after we conduct the slaughter on Sunday, June 8," Mulawarman stated in a press conference on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. However, Mulawarman noted that it is not yet confirmed whether President Prabowo will join the meal with the orphans.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has set Eid al-Adha, or 10 Dhul Hijjah 1446 Hijri, to fall on Friday, June 6, 2025. This decision was announced after the ministry concluded that 1 Dhul Hijjah fell on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
This decision was made public following a closed isbat session at the Auditorium H.M. Rasjidi, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
