TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As we prepare to turn the page to 2026, the Japan Meteorological Corporation (JMC) has also marked the transition by releasing its first forecast for the sakura season. The outlook shows that cherry blossoms across the country are expected to bloom in mid-March.
Often regarded as Japan’s most beautiful season, cherry blossom time is also one of its busiest, drawing visitors from around the world to witness the soft pink hues that transform cities and landscapes.

As noted by The Straits Times, JMC’s forecast relies on research involving Yoshino cherry trees at around 1,000 viewing locations across Japan. The projected dates are determined by factors such as temperature patterns from the autumn of the preceding year.
The forecast was released on December 18, earlier than the usual January announcement, due to the use of artificial intelligence. This technology allows JMC to provide more reliable information sooner, in response to strong demand for sakura bloom forecasts from both international and domestic admirers. However, timely updates will continue to be provided, with the next scheduled for January 8.
