TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A hotel on Jalan Teuku Cik Ditiro II, Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, shed light on part of the mystery surrounding the death of Arya Daru Pangayunan, a young diplomat from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the investigation, police found evidence that Arya Daru and a colleague, Vara Dwikhandini, booked rooms at the hotel dozens of times.
The two-star hotel sits about 750 meters from Daru's boarding house in Menteng, Central Jakarta. Tempo visited the hotel on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Management declined to comment at length but did not deny the report. "We have already provided statements and data to the police, so please ask them," said a receptionist named Jessica.
Jessica said the Foreign Affairs Ministry never held any events at the hotel. She also said she could not confirm the purpose of Daru and Vara's room bookings there.
The evidence involving Daru and Vara emerged during a meeting between the General Crimes Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the legal team representing Arya Daru's family on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Daru and Vara allegedly booked rooms 35 times from mid-February 2024 through late June 2025. "The details are that Daru booked 10 times and Vara 25 times," said Dwi Librianto, a member of the family's legal team, to Tempo.
