No Indonesians Affected in Turkey Earthquake, Foreign Ministry Confirms

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that no Indonesian nationals are affected by the 5.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey that struck early on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara said the quake jolted the region at 2.17 a.m. local time, with the epicenter located in the Marmaris district, Mula, at a depth of 67.9 kilometers.

According to the official release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the earthquake in Turkey affected several provinces, including Mula, Aydn, Manisa, Izmir, Denizli, and Antalya. The distance between Ankara and Mula is approximately 590 kilometers, while the distance between Istanbul and Mula is about 817 kilometers.

Local authorities reported that the tremor caused one fatality due to panic and 69 injuries. There was no fatal infrastructure damage.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara has contacted the Indonesian citizen protection task force and the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) in the earthquake-struck areas of Turkey.

Based on self-reporting, the number of Indonesian citizens in Mula and the affected areas is 2,257, including 184 students. The total number of Indonesian citizens in Turkey as of June 2025 is 9,532.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara ensures that they will continue to monitor the situation and contact the Indonesian community in the affected areas to keep track of their well-being.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara have provided a hotline number for Indonesian citizens in case of emergency at +90 532 135 22 98.

As reported by Antara, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya mentioned that a Turkish citizen died from a panic attack after the earthquake shook southern Turkey.

"During the earthquake in Fethiye, our 14-year-old daughter, Afranur Günlü, was taken to hospital due to a panic attack, but unfortunately lost her life despite all interventions," said Yerlikaya at X.

Yerlikaya stated that the tremors of the earthquake were felt in the Mugla Province and several other provinces without any reports of earthquake-induced damage.

He also reported that 69 people were injured from jumping from heights out of fear, with 46 of them still being treated in hospitals.
