TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism about Indonesia’s emergence as a major global power, describing the country as a “rising giant” during the inauguration of PT VKTR Sakti Industries’ electric commercial vehicle assembly facility in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.
According to an official statement received in Jakarta, Prabowo said Indonesia has a strong foundation to withstand global challenges, particularly in the energy sector, citing the country’s abundant natural resources as a key asset amid growing global uncertainty.
“Indonesia is not in the dark. Indonesia’s future is very bright. We are very strong, and getting stronger. Our growth is solid. For our young people, the future is bright,” Prabowo said.
The president said Indonesia is entering what he called a period of major resurgence and is no longer a “sleeping giant.” He projected confidence that the country is now rising and preparing to become a global force to be reckoned with.
“Next year, we will surprise the world. Indonesia is rising. This giant is waking up. We will no longer be a sleeping giant. We are rising,” he said.
Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia’s resource wealth gives it a strong footing to face external pressures, even as the world navigates economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
“We must remain vigilant, but we should also be optimistic. We will face challenges in the coming months, but we have resources, very strong and abundant resources. At the same time, we must save energy and move toward clean, renewable energy,” he said.
He stressed that food and energy self-sufficiency are essential if Indonesia is to preserve its independence and continue growing as a major nation.
“A country as large as ours, if it wants to remain independent and survive, must be self-reliant in the most decisive sectors. Above all, that means food, and after that, energy,” Prabowo said.
