TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Authorities have arrested suspects involved in the theft of several French crown jewels from the Louvre Museum, Paris prosecutors confirmed on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following earlier reports by Le Parisien cited by CNA.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said one male suspect was detained at Charles de Gaulle Airport in northern Paris while attempting to leave the country. She did not disclose how many individuals were apprehended or provide further details.
Two sources familiar with the investigation told reporters that French authorities had detained two men suspected of being part of the four-person team behind last week’s high-profile robbery. One suspect was arrested around 10:00 PM local time at the airport, while a second was taken into custody shortly afterward in the Paris area.
Dozens of investigators have been mobilized to track down the thieves who executed the brazen heist on October 19, stealing royal jewelry worth approximately US$102 million in just seven minutes.
The robbers used a ladder extended from a getaway van to access a first-floor gallery, where they used cutting equipment to break in.
During their escape, they dropped a crown set with diamonds and emeralds, fleeing down the stairs and onto a scooter.
Despite the mishap, the thieves managed to steal eight other items, including a diamond and emerald necklace that Napoleon Bonaparte gifted to his wife, Empress Marie-Louise.
The audacious heist has drawn global media attention and sparked renewed debate in France over the security of cultural institutions.
