1. ASEAN Agrees to Update Goods Trade Regulations
Member states of ASEAN have agreed to renew trade regulations for goods by presenting the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA Upgrade).
The official handover of the agreement was conducted by the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, as the Chair of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) Council, to the ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Indonesian Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that the ATIGA upgrade will help ASEAN face global economic challenges.
"The official handover of the agreement manuscript marks the collective commitment of ASEAN member states to build a modern, inclusive, and sustainable trade system, to strengthen the region's economic integration," said Budi Santoso in his statement in Jakarta on Monday, October 27, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
2. What Went Wrong for Indonesia U-17 in the Match Against Paraguay
The Indonesian U-17 national team suffered a 1-2 defeat against Paraguay in an international friendly at Al Hamriyah Club Complex, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, 25th October 2025. This match was part of the final preparations for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, scheduled from 3rd to 27th November.
The young Garuda squad initially took the lead through Fadly Alberto Hengga's goal in the first half. However, Paraguay turned the tables with goals by Jose Buhring in the 70th minute and Mauricio De Carvalho in injury time at minute 90+2. The last-minute defeat served as an evaluation for coach Nova Arianto.
"Once again, I want to give all the players the opportunity because matches like this are rare for us. We faced one of the strongest teams in terms of football," Nova told Tempo on Sunday, 26th October 2025.
3. Indonesia Pushes ASEAN Cooperation to Fight Cybercrime and Online Fraud
Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, emphasized the need for cross-sectoral cooperation within ASEAN to address growing regional security challenges, particularly transnational crimes such as cybercrime and online fraud.
"As our region becomes increasingly interconnected and dynamic, we must strengthen our capacity to address multidimensional challenges, including transnational crimes," Sugiono said at the 30th ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, as reported by Antara.
Sugiono urged the APSC to coordinate closely with the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) to produce comprehensive measures against emerging threats.
He proposed interface meetings between sectoral bodies and greater collaboration within the APSC to tackle these issues effectively.
