TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As the year comes to a close, global adventurers are starting to look for new destinations for 2026. Lonely Planet has just released a list of 25 top places to visit next year, which combine natural charm, rich culture, and up-and-coming cities. From the highlands of Peru to volcanic islands in the Indian Ocean, this list promises adventures that not only delight the eyes but also the soul.
Peru takes the top spot, inviting travelers to trace the footsteps of the Incas in the magnificent Machu Picchu or immerse themselves in the colorful traditional markets of Cusco. Jaffna, Sri Lanka, offers a rich history of Hindu temples and unspoiled tropical beaches, perfect for peace seekers. Meanwhile, Cadiz in Spain captivates with its ancient port, historical architecture, and the scent of fresh tapas in the air. Maine, United States, presents dramatic cliffs and wild forests, perfect for nature enthusiasts.
Special attention is given to Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, approximately 230 kilometers from Mauritius. Lonely Planet describes it as the best destination to immerse in unique natural and multicultural heritage. The island is a cultural mosaic, inhabited by Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and other communities, resulting from centuries of migration. Its nature is equally stunning, with 400 microclimates, endemic flora and fauna, and the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise. Grande Anse Beach offers crystal-clear waters for snorkeling, making it a paradise for sea lovers and adventurers.
Ireland also captures attention with Tipperary, a green valley offering outdoor adventures in the Glen of Aherlow. The valley is perfect for hiking or horseback riding, with serene hillside views. Do not miss the Rock of Cashel, a historic stone fortress that feels like stepping into the Celtic era, or indulge in the legendary Cashel Blue cheese.
