TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tottenham Hotspur has won the Europa League 2024/25 after defeating Manchester United with a score of 1-0 in the final match at San Mames Stadium, Bilbao, in the early hours of Thursday WIB.
In this match, Tottenham's victory over Manchester United came through a goal from Brennan Johnson in the first half, according to UEFA.
This marks Tottenham Hotspur's third Europa League title, following their previous victories in the 1971/72 and 1983/84 seasons, ending a 17-year drought for the club after their last English League Cup win in the 2007/08 season.
On the other hand, this is a failure for Manchester United to reclaim the Europa League title after their defeat to Villarreal in the 2020/21 season's final through a penalty shoot-out.
Son Heung-min's Comment
After the match, Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham, was asked about how he led Tottenham to their first major award in 17 years. "I felt the pressure. I really wanted it. For the past seven days, I have been dreaming about this match every day. Finally, it happened, and now I can sleep soundly!" said the South Korean player to TNT Sports as quoted by UEFA.
Is he now a club legend? "Let's say I am a legend. Why not? Just for today! In 17 years, no one has done it. Today is the day - maybe I will say that I am a legend," he said.
Son Heung-min stated that he is the happiest person in the world. "Let's enjoy it, let's celebrate. It feels amazing; this is what I have always dreamed of. Today is the day when that dream becomes a reality. I am the happiest person in the world," he said.
Son mentioned that the club's journey to win the trophy was not easy. "When you look throughout the season, there are always some situations where you face difficulties, but as players, we always stick together. The young players always step up. I always try to give them good advice, speak positively. I am very lucky to have an amazing group of players with me," he said.

Statistically, Manchester United actually dominated with 73 percent of possession and unleashed 16 shots, six of which were on target, but Tottenham was able to be more effective.
United took the initiative to attack first and had a golden opportunity through a shot by Amad Diallo that went wide of Tottenham's goal.
