TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in the tourist island Bali has added a new flight route to and from India, through Mumbai.
The General Manager of the airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, said Bali now has direct connections with three cities in India, thanks to the entry of an airline serving the Mumbai route.
"The Mumbai route operation by IndiGo airline adds connectivity between India and the island of Bali. Currently, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport is directly connected to three cities in India, namely Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru," said Ahmad Syaugi in a statement in Denpasar on Monday, October 20, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
The inaugural flight of the Mumbai route itself took place on Saturday, October 18, when IndiGo Airlines flying an Airbus A320 aircraft with flight number 6E 1607 landed at Ngurah Rai, Bali, at 04:00 p.m. local time, carrying 173 passengers.
Subsequently, the aircraft flew back to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, at 05:45 p.m. with flight number 6E 1608, and will continue to operate regularly every day.
According to Ahmad Syaugi, with IndiGo Airlines and Air India serving flights to and from India, the connectivity between these two countries will become stronger.
This route not only expands the international flight network at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport but also strengthens tourism and economic relations between the two countries.
India itself is one of the potential tourist markets for Bali.
"The number of foreign tourists from India continues to show positive growth. Throughout 2025, we recorded 438,646 Indian nationals entering through the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport," said Ahmad Syaugi.
There has been an 8 percent gain in Indian tourist arrivals in Bali compared to 2024, making visits from the South Asian nation consistently rank third in Bali entrance.
"We hope to boost tourist visits and make Bali the primary destination with this direct Mumbai-Denpasar flight," said Ahmad Syaugi.
With the addition of this new route, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport currently serves 37 international flight routes to various countries and 21 domestic routes, totaling 58 flight routes.
The management guarantees that as the flight routes at the southern Bali airport grow, they will provide excellent service to all airport users and fully support efforts to grow Bali's tourism sector.
