TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Representative Office of Bank Indonesia for West Java Province has partnered with the West Java provincial government, PT Jasa Sarana, and the banking sector to launch the QRIS Tap service in West Java. "With the support of all parties, West Java is expected to become a national model in the implementation of safe, easy, fast, and inclusive digital transactions," said the Head of the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia for West Java Province, Muhamad Nur, in a press release on Friday, October 24, 2025.
The launch of QRIS Tap took place at the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for West Java Province in Bandung and at Trans Studio Mall Bandung on Friday, October 24, 2025. The launch introduced the "Mall SIAP QRIS TAP" program, making Trans Studio Mall Bandung the first mall to implement the non-cash QRIS Tap payment system in the retail sector in West Java. The launch also introduced the use of QRIS Tap for transactions on the Metro Jabar Trans service.
The Head of the Bureau of Economics at the West Java Regional Secretariat, Budi Kurnia, said that the provincial government is committed to strengthening the integration of public services through the implementation of non-cash QRIS Tap transactions. "The implementation of QRIS Tap is a tangible symbol of synergy between digital transformation and public services that are oriented towards convenience and transparency for the people," he said, as quoted in the press release on Friday, October 24, 2025.
In the public sector, particularly in transportation, the QRIS Tap service has become one of the transaction services on the Metro Jabar Trans bus. Non-cash transactions in this transportation service are expected not only to facilitate transactions but also to increase transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the public transportation system. "As a pioneer in the implementation of QRIS Tap in the public transportation sector, MJT brings fast, secure, and efficient non-cash transaction convenience," said the Head of the West Java Transportation Agency, Dhani Gumelar, as quoted in the press release on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Currently, as part of the Bandung Basin Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system developed since 2019, Trans Metro Jabar serves six corridors in the Bandung Raya area with 95 operating buses. Recently, 22 additional Trans Metro Jabar feeder units were added. The Metro Jabar Trans service has digitalized its services through the use of CCTV, GPS tracking, and advanced driver assistance systems to detect drowsy drivers and exceed the maximum speed. The Metro Jabar Trans service and its feeders are now supplemented with the use of QRIS Tap as a payment method.
"The MJT feeder is part of the Bandung Basin Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system developed since 2019. Its presence expands the service coverage to residential areas and encourages the public to shift from private vehicles to more environmentally friendly public transportation," said Dhani.
Bank Indonesia West Java recorded that by August 2025, the number of QRIS users in West Java reached 12.7 million people, equivalent to 22 percent of the national total. Meanwhile, the number of merchants in West Java that have adopted the QRIS service for their transactions has reached 8.7 million, equivalent to 21 percent of the national share. During the same period, Bank Indonesia West Java recorded that the volume of QRIS transactions in West Java reached 1.59 transactions, growing by 213.39 percent (year-on-year). Meanwhile, the transaction value during the same period reached Rp148.95 trillion, growing by 139.87 percent (year-on-year).
