TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The country's largest sharia bank, PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), has launched a new product called 'Tabungan Umrah' (Umrah Savings). BSI's Sales & Distribution Director, Anton Sukarna, stated that this savings account is expected to provide a financial solution for customers planning their umrah, from financial planning to transaction ease while in Saudi Arabia.

Anton acknowledged that the Muslim population in Indonesia has reached 246 million people, with the number of umrah pilgrims expected to reach 2 million by 2025. "When we look into it, umrah has become not only a religious obligation but also a lifestyle, a spiritual journey," he said during the launch event for 'Tabungan Umrah' at the BSI Tower on Monday, February 23, 2026.

He also addressed the fact that previously, haj and umrah savings were combined into a single product. However, upon examination, it was found that haj and umrah serve different markets. This is because haj travel requires a waiting period and is limited by quotas. Therefore, Bank Syariah Indonesia created a specialized product specifically for umrah pilgrims.

The Umrah Savings account can be held in Indonesian Rupiah or US Dollars, with an initial deposit of Rp100,000 or US$10. The subsequent minimum deposit is Rp10,000 or US$5, while the minimum balance for the Umrah Savings account is Rp50,000 or US$10. This account does not incur monthly administration fees, though there is a Rp20,000 or US$5 fee for closing the account.

Anton stated that this account can be opened from a young age, starting from birth, allowing even children to hold an Umrah Savings account. Additionally, this account is integrated with Bewize BSI, enabling affiliated travel agencies to manage customer referrals and monitor savings based on customer approval.

The account also comes with a Debit Visa Mabrur card, allowing customers to conduct transactions seamlessly in Saudi Arabia. "Specifically, regarding the card, it is a contactless tap card. In the past, we had to enter a PIN to shop, but now you can just tap it; so, please use it carefully," Anton said.

The use of the Debit Visa Mabrur card incurs a Rp4,000 monthly administration fee. With this card, customers can withdraw up to Rp15 million, transfer between BSI accounts up to Rp100 million, perform online transfers up to Rp50 million, and make offline or online purchases up to Rp100 million and Rp10 million, respectively.
