TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) stated that no Zakat, Infaq, and Charity (ZIS) funds were used in the production or publication of the book “Islam Ala Prabowo: Cara Prabowo Subianto Mengamalkan Ajaran Islam” (Prabowo’s Islam: How Prabowo Subianto Practices Islamic Teachings). Baznas confirmed that its participation in the 2025 book launch was limited to institutional relations and religious missionary literacy.
For Baznas Chair Sodik Mudjahid, the public's trust in fulfilling ZIS through this institution was a great honor and responsibility that is constantly upheld.
Sodik also emphasized the importance of providing an open explanation to prevent misunderstandings about Baznas's position and involvement in the activity. "First, the production and publication of the book did not use any zakat, infaq, and charity funds entrusted by the public through Baznas," said Sodik in his statement quoted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Sodik mentioned that the Baznas team neither wrote nor published the book. At Baznas’ national coordination meeting, he said the zakat agency's involvement in the 2025 launch was part of the institutional synergy between the Indonesian Ulema Council, the Ministry of Religion, and the House of Representatives in religious missionary literacy, not a form of Baznas' involvement in practical politics.
This 368-page book, published by Atmosphere Publishing House on July 14, 2025, discusses Prabowo Subianto's leadership and its association with Islamic values. It includes writings and views from several religious figures and academics, providing their perspectives on Prabowo's character and leadership.
According to the book's authors — Abdur Rahim Hasan, Mush'ab Mugoddas, and Rikal Dikri — “Islam Ala Prabowo” was intentionally written to present a different image of Prabowo Subianto. The book's authors claim that Prabowo drives religious and community service, "even though he himself is not a sarong-clad Islamic student," as they wrote in the book's preface, quoted on Monday, September 7, 2026.
However, the book came under scrutiny as several figures mentioned as authors denied their involvement.
The caretaker of the Al-Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, East Java, Muhammad Abdurrahman Al Kautsar, also known as Gus Kautsar, objected to the lack of transparency in the interview process and the personification of religious values in the title “Islam Ala Prabowo.” "I object if it turns out like this, especially with a title like that," said Gus Kautsar to Tempo on Monday, September 2026.
Others who claimed they were not involved include Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Law Yusril Ihza Mahendra; former Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy; and former West Nusa Tenggara Governor Tuan Guru Bajang Muhammad Zainul Majdi.
