TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Como 1907 secured a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in their Champions League debut at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium on Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 league phase on Thursday.
Como secured their victory with goals from Martin Baturina, Anastasios Douvikas, Assane Diao, and Maximo Perrone. Leipzig could only respond with a goal from Andrija Maksimovic. That result marks a sweet milestone for Como in their debut appearance in that elite European club competition.
As quoted by ANTARA, the additional three points also propelled Cesc Fabregas's team straight to fifth place in the standings, while Leipzig languishes in 32nd position, according to the official UEFA website.
Como immediately took control of the game from the start. However, Leipzig created the first chance in the 11th minute through Antonio Nusa, who connected with a pass from Christopher Nkunku. Como goalkeeper Jean Butez saved his shot.
Como then responded with a series of attacks. Maarten Vandervoordt was forced to work hard to deal with a chance for the hosts that began with a cross from Lucas Da Cunha. Douvikas took a shot that Vandervoordt parried. Nico Paz pounced on the rebound, but that effort also failed to produce a goal.
Como finally broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Baturina capitalized on a poor clearance by the Leipzig defense after receiving a cross from Douvikas, then finished the chance to put Como 1-0 ahead.
Leipzig tried to respond. Nusa posed a threat again, and Maksimovic unleashed a curling shot in the 36th minute. However, Butez managed to keep the Como goal safe.
Two minutes later, Como managed to double their lead. Baturina played a through ball that Douvikas capitalized on to make it 2-0. Como held the lead until halftime.
Entering the second half, Como once again played aggressively. In the 54th minute, Assane Diao extended the lead to 3-0 after finishing a pass from Nico Paz. Diao's shot was precise and beyond Vandervoordt's reach.
Leipzig did not give up. Four minutes later, Maksimovic capitalized on a lapse in the Como defense to narrow the deficit to 1–3.
Como finally sealed the victory by scoring a fourth goal in the 90th minute. Maximo Perrone finished a pass from Nico Paz to put the hosts 4-1 ahead. That scoreline held until the final whistle. Como thus capped off their Champions League debut with a convincing victory over Leipzig.
