TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Forestry reported 1,532 hotspots indicating forest and land fires across several provinces, marking an increase compared to figures recorded on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
In an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Ristianto Pribadi, Head of Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation at the Ministry of Forestry, stated that the government continues to step up mitigation operations, particularly targeting Central Kalimantan and South Sumatra.
"Based on SiPongi data from the Ministry of Forestry, sourced from NASA's Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA-20 satellites, as of Sunday, September 20, at 11:59 p.m. WIB, 1,532 high-confidence hotspots were detected nationally, reflecting an increase of 209 points from 1,323 points on Saturday," Ristianto said.
Data as of September 20, 2026, shows that Central Kalimantan recorded 968 hotspots, followed by South Sumatra with 285, West Kalimantan with 98, South Kalimantan with 39, Jambi with 26, and Riau with one hotspot.
He explained that Central Kalimantan maintains the highest concentration of high-confidence hotspots among the six priority provinces, even as figures began to decline compared to the previous day.
Meanwhile, a notable increase in hotspots across South Sumatra has emerged as a key consideration in determining immediate operational deployment.
"The Ministry of Forestry reiterates that hotspots indicate surface temperature anomalies detected by satellite and cannot be directly equated with an active fire or the total burned area," he said.
A single fire event can generate multiple satellite hotspot detections, he added, stressing that all satellite data undergoes rigorous ground-truthing and field verification to assess real-time conditions.
