TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has expressed the possibility of a change in this year's hajj implementation scenario. According to Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, the departure may be delayed if the current war in the Middle East endangers the pilgrims.

"For example, if the situation endangers safety, then the scenario of postponement may arise," Dahnil said on Tuesday, March 11, 2026.

He said that this scenario is still to be discussed and adjusted according to the direction from President Prabowo Subianto.

Dahnil stated that the government's priority in this year's hajj implementation is to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. He mentioned that this is a commitment to protect the citizens and ensure the pilgrimage can take place safely and comfortably.

He also conveyed the president's message regarding the Hajj, which emphasizes ensuring the safety of the pilgrims. "This is the most important thing. So, we are preparing various scenarios with the main orientation of ensuring the safety of Indonesian citizens who will perform the hajj in April," said Dahnil.

In addition, Dahnil mentioned that the government will monitor developments in Middle Eastern conflicts when formulating these measures. "If there is no change in the scenario or a de-escalation of the conflict, and it guarantees the safety of Indonesian citizens who are going on the hajj, then the first group departure will be on April 22. However, the president's direction is clear: all conditions and all scenarios must be prepared," he said.

He further stated that currently, the ministry is still coordinating with various agencies and ministries to ensure the implementation of the hajj can proceed safely. "We will discuss various scenarios with the DPR (House of Representatives) if the conflict shows signs that could endanger our pilgrims," he said.

According to the schedule, the first group of pilgrims will depart on April 22, 2026. Around 221,000 pilgrims will depart for the holy land this year.
