TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hylo Open 2025 in Saarbrücken, Germany, after defeating Germany’s Bjarne Geiss and Jones Ralfy Jansen on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Playing as the second match on court 1 at Saarlandhalle, Fajar/Fikri led 11-8 at the first-game interval and maintained their advantage to close the opening game 21-17.
In the second game, the Indonesian duo initially surged to a 6-2 lead, but Geiss/Jansen responded with six consecutive points to take a temporary lead. Fajar/Fikri regained control at 11-9, yet the German pair once again fought back from 14-16, winning the game 21-16 to force a deciding third game.
The final game saw intense rallies and multiple tied scores. Despite trailing 4-7 early, Fajar/Fikri leveled at 8-8 and later broke the deadlock after 10-10, pulling ahead 15-11 and 18-12 before sealing the match 21-13 after 55 minutes.
Other Indonesian Men’s Doubles Results
Meanwhile, another Indonesian pair, Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana, were eliminated in a close three-game match against third seeds Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee from Malaysia, losing 9-21, 21-17, 20-22.
The third game was particularly tight, with Leo/Bagas briefly taking the lead at 20-19 before an errant smash tied the score at 20-20, and Man/Kai ultimately clinched the win in 52 minutes.
Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Rahmat Hidayat also bowed out, falling to eighth-seeded Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan 21-15, 16-21, 18-21 in a 47-minute match.
