TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis star athlete Janice Tjen achieved a new milestone as she climbed up to 36th in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings update on Monday, February 23, 2026. This progress comes after the conclusion of the Middle East Swing tournaments with the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, the second WTA 1000 event of the 2026 season.

Competing as a wildcard entry in Dubai, as quoted from Antara, Janice secured her fourth career victory over a Top 30 player. She advanced to the round of 16 in a WTA 1000 event for the first time after defeating Leylah Fernandez, whom she also defeated in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open.

The 23-year-old tennis player for the first time broke into the Top 40 in the world, jumping 10 positions from 46th to 36th. Previously, at the WTA 1000 Doha, Janice was eliminated in the second round after losing to top seed Iga Swiatek. Nevertheless, she displayed an impressive performance by eliminating Brazilian player Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the 2026 Qatar Total Energies Open.

Janice began the Middle East swing at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2026. In the WTA 500 event, she defeated Australian player Maya Joint in the first round before being stopped in the second round by fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova. Despite failing to advance far in the singles category, Janice reached the doubles semifinals alongside Filipina player Alexandra Eala.

Eala also achieved a ranking improvement by moving up 16 positions from 47th to 31st after reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Dubai.

After completing the Middle East swing, Janice continued her competitive agenda in Mexico to participate in the Sunshine Swing through the Merida Open 2026. In the WTA 500 event, Janice is seeded sixth and scheduled to face Colombian player Camila Osorio in the first round on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

In addition to the singles category, Janice Tjen will also compete in the doubles event with Katarzyna Piter. The pair of Janice/Piter is scheduled to face Madeleine Brooks/Shuo Feng in their opening match on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
