TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - King Charles III has officially stripped Prince Andrew of all his royal titles on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Furthermore, Andrew is no longer entitled to use the title 'prince' before his name. King Charles exercised his prerogative as a king to revoke all of his brother's titles without involving a parliamentary decision.
Buckingham Palace Announces Prince Andrew's New Name
As reported by People, Buckingham Palace announced the removal of all royal titles from Andrew. He will no longer be known as a prince or His Royal Highness. "His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew," the palace said in the statement. "Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor."
As a consequence of losing his titles, Andrew will also lose his residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, even though the rental contract is valid until 2078. "Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation."
As quoted from Daily Mail, Andrew will move to a property in the Sandringham housing complex in Norfolk, over 160 kilometers from the Royal Lodge he shared with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, in Windsor. Details of the move are yet to be known. Meanwhile, Fergie is known to arrange her own residence after leaving the royal residential complex in Windsor Castle.
"These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him," the palace statement, as quoted from Daily Mail, reads. "Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse."

Various Scandals Underlying Andrew's Title Revocation
King Charles III's decision follows Andrew's surrender of his noble attributes after various scandals tarnished the British Royal Family's name. On October 17, 2025, Andrew openly discussed his decision in his statement. "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me."
Prince Andrew came under public scrutiny after being implicated in allegations of sexual abuse due to his friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender and human trafficker. Prince Andrew was also alleged to have had connections with an individual suspected of being a Chinese spy. Moreover, he was sued by Virginia Giuffre for alleged abuse before settling out of court in 2022. At that time, the late Queen Elizabeth II punished her son by revoking his military titles and royal patronage.
As the son of the reigning Queen Elizabeth II, Andrew has held the title of His Royal Highness for 65 years since his birth. His late mother bestowed upon him the titles of Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh when he married Sarah Ferguson in 1986. This father of two daughters has also received prestigious awards, namely the Order of the Garter and the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
King Charles Protects Andrew's 2 Children
As reported by The Daily Mail, King Charles stated that all titles of Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, remain. The King is said to be very keen to 'protect' his nieces. They will continue to hold the title of Her Highness as granddaughters of Queen Elizabeth. "He wouldn't have wanted to sign off on anything that would impact them," a source told Daily Mail.
