TEMPO.COJakarta - Manchester United returned to the top four of the Premier League standings after a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton in Matchday 27 at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Liverpool, early Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026. Benjamin Sesko's lone goal in the 71st minute secured the victory for the visitors.

This result moved Manchester United up to fourth place with 48 points from 27 matches, 13 points behind Arsenal at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Everton remained in ninth place with 37 points.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick credited the victory to the team's hard work, particularly in defending in the closing stages. "There are games where you have to show a different side of your game. The spirit, sacrifice, and willingness to work together as a team were evident, especially when we had to defend the penalty box in the final stages. The clean sheet and this win were very important for us," said Carrick, as quoted on the club's official website.

Carrick acknowledged that the match against Everton was difficult, especially as his team had just returned from a long break. However, he believes the players were able to maintain their performance thanks to good training. "Games here are always tough. We anticipated that. The players trained well and came in feeling positive, but this was one of those nights when we had to fight hard. Sometimes those are the best games to win," he said.

Carrick added that his team still had much to improve on, although a positive result was still important for the next match. "We will learn from this match. There are still things we can improve on, and it's too early to expect everything to be perfect. We have time to review and try to fix some things before the next match," Carrick said.

In that match, Manchester United played aggressively from the start, creating chances through Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot, but they were unable to score. Entering the second half, the pressure continued, with Bryan Mbeumo's effort going wide.

The winning goal finally came on the counter-attack when Sesko capitalized on Mbeumo's pass to beat the Everton defense. Trailing by a goal, the hosts increased their attack, including a long-range shot from Michael Keane, but failed to penetrate the United defense until the final whistle.
