TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed three main messages to the Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the beginning of his term. He emphasized that the main focus of the National Police is to eradicate drugs, smuggling, and online gambling.
"At that time, I conveyed to the Police Chief, I have placed the main task of the police on your shoulders. I asked the Police Chief to lead three things for me: the eradication of drugs, smuggling, and online gambling," said Prabowo in his speech while attending the destruction of drug evidence at the Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Prabowo considers these three problems a serious threat to the nation's future, and they must be addressed thoroughly. He emphasized that he would not interfere with the National Police's internal affairs so that the institution could function professionally. "I respect you. I don't intervene, I don't appoint officials, I don't ask for any favors," said Prabowo.
Nevertheless, Prabowo jokingly mentioned that he only recommended a few police officers who had previously escorted him. "If my former escorts are police officers, please let them enter the police academy. Is it okay? That's legitimate, isn't it? But I don't have any nephews whom I appoint as officials. None. I take responsibility," he said.
Prabowo emphasized that the focus of his government is to secure the nation's wealth from leakage and cross-sector crimes. He concluded that the National Police have shown real results in their performance over the past year, especially in drug eradication.
President Prabowo directly led the destruction of drugs worth Rp29.37 trillion as a symbol of one year of the government's policy in protecting the nation's generation from the threat of drugs. Based on Tempo's observation, he arrived at the location around 1:20 PM.
Several high-ranking state officials attended the event, including the Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly, Ahmad Muzani; the House Speaker, Puan Maharani; Supreme Court Justice Yanto; Chair of the Council of Honor, Nazaruddin Dek Gam; and Chair of the House Commission III, Habiburokhman.
Also in attendance were Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Chief of the National Narcotics Agency Dadan Hindayana, Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas, Minister of Investment Agus Andrianto, and Deputy Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Otto Hasibuan.
From within the National Police, Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency Commissioner General Syahardiantono, and several regional police chiefs were seen.
