TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has distributed aid to hundreds of families affected by the collapse of the mosque at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo. The aid distribution was part of the Khotmil Quran and Tahlil Akbar Syuhada Santri Al Khoziny event held at the Pendopo Agung of Bangkalan Regency, East Java, on Saturday night, October 18, 2025.
The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, directly attended the event. Also present were the guardian of Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, KH Abdul Salam Mujib, along with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Bangkalan Regency, as well as religious leaders and the families of the victims.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), we could pray together with the families of the deceased and the injured victims. This is a form of empathy and togetherness for all of us," said Gus Ipul, as Saifullah is commonly referred to, according to the program.
According to Gus Ipul, the Indonesian government is committed to providing protection and social support for all the victims and their families. "The President (Prabowo) pays great attention to handling this disaster. We ensure that the entire process of assistance and support for the victims runs according to their needs," said Gus Ipul.
Kemensos recorded that the total aid distributed has reached Rp891.3 million, covering compensation and basic food packages for 167 victims, consisting of 63 deceased victims and 104 injured victims. Of this number, 18 deceased victims and 19 injured victims are from Bangkalan Regency.
Gus Ipul emphasized that the aid distribution does not stop at the initial compensation. Kemensos will also provide social security guarantees, medical rehabilitation, and psychosocial support for the affected families.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), many families of the victims attended tonight, including some who came from outside the area. Only a small number couldn't attend because they came from outside the island," he said.
