TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chelsea won a five-goal thriller against Fulham, finishing 3-2 at Craven Cottage, London, on Tuesday.
Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers, and Cole Palmer scored for Chelsea, while the hosts found the net through Joshua King and Gonzalo Garcia.
The match marked the competitive debut for both teams under new Spanish managers; Fulham are led by Alvaro Arbeloa, while Chelsea have begun the Xabi Alonso era following a 10th-place finish last season.
The victory moves Chelsea to sixth place in the standings with three points, while Fulham sit in 12th, according to the Premier League website, as cited by Antara.
Chelsea needed just 31 seconds to take the lead, with Joao Pedro scoring his first goal of the season after receiving a pass from Cole Palmer.
However, Fulham did not take long to respond. The hosts ramped up the pressure and threatened the Chelsea defense on several occasions.
Fulham's efforts paid off in the 23rd minute. Joshua King scored with a shot from a tight angle that found the bottom corner of Robert Sanchez's goal.
Chelsea nearly regained the lead in the 30th minute when Palmer crossed to Pedro, but the Brazilian forward's volley went narrowly wide of Bernd Leno's goal.
It was Morgan Rogers who eventually restored the visitors' lead with a goal in the 41st minute.
In the second half, Chelsea extended their lead to 3-1 when Palmer scored in the 49th minute, finishing a move set up by Pedro inside the penalty area following a rapid counter-attack.
Fulham responded five minutes later. Gonzalo Garcia capitalized on a rebound—after Sanchez had parried a shot from Timothy Castagne—to narrow the deficit to 2-3.
The game then became increasingly open. Chelsea relied on counter-attacks, while Fulham attempted to break down the Blues' defense using the pace of players on the flanks.
Both teams created chances right up to the final minutes, but no further goals were scored.
