TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China's Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday, September 9, strongly rejected a recent U.S. announcement stating that Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies are engaged in industry-scale efforts to acquire capabilities from U.S. AI models.
As reported by ANTARA, the Chinese ministry stated that the allegations were baseless and lacked any legal foundation.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said China’s progress in AI has been driven by strong self-reliance and scientific and technological capabilities, while also benefiting from its commitment to broad consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, as well as openness and cooperation.
"We believe all parties need to strengthen cooperation and make sure AI development is open and inclusive and promotes the well-being of humanity as a force for good and for all," said Mao at a press conference.
Mao expressed the hope that the U.S. side would earnestly follow up on the important understandings reached by the two heads of state.
"China and the United States, both as major countries in AI, should strengthen cooperation," he said.
