TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto began his journey to Moscow, Russia, on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Prabowo departed from Indonesia on the presidential plane just before midnight.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that Prabowo is heading to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, at around 11:10 PM WIB (West Indonesian Time).
"Late on Sunday, April 12, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto departed for Moscow, Russia," said Teddy in a written statement released by the Presidential Secretariat following Prabowo's departure.
Teddy stated that Prabowo will have a non-stop flight of approximately 12 hours using the national airline, Garuda Indonesia. The President is expected to arrive in Russia on Monday morning local time.
When departing from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Prabowo was accompanied by several of his cabinet officials. Among them were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the National Intelligence Agency Muhammad Herindra.
Several other officials are also accompanying Prabowo to Russia. Those who are part of Prabowo's entourage include Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Foreign Minister Sugiono had previously mentioned the planned meeting. "He (Prabowo) will meet with President Putin," said Sugiono in a video statement quoted on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Sugiono stated that Prabowo will discuss the world's geopolitical situation with Putin, especially regarding the energy situation such as the volatile oil market amid conflicts in various regions. "Because this is something that is very strategic for Indonesia," said the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party.
This visit in April 2026 will be Prabowo's third trip to Russia as president. The former defense minister had previously visited Russia in June and December 2025. Prabowo met with Putin on both occasions.
