TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has said the Strait of Hormuz is “completely open” for all commercial vessels and will remain so during the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, according to DW, as United States President Donald Trump said an agreement to end the US-Israeli war on Iran was “very close”.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X on Friday.

A 10-day ceasefire was agreed between Israel and Lebanon late on Thursday, though it remains unclear whether Hezbollah, the Iran-aligned armed group fighting Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, will adhere to the truce.

According to Al Jazeera, Araghchi added that vessel traffic through the strait would follow coordinated routes already set by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.

Following the announcement, oil prices fell below $90 per barrel. International benchmark Brent crude dropped to $87.94, down 11.5 percent on the day, while US crude fell to $83.33 per barrel.

Trump confirmed in a social media post that the strait was “completely open and ready for business and full passage”, but said the US naval blockade of Iran would “remain in full force” until Tehran reached a deal with Washington to end the war.

In a separate post, Trump also said Iran had agreed to “never close the Strait of Hormuz again”.

“It will no longer be used as a weapon against the World!” he added.

A senior Iranian military official told state media that only non-military vessels would be allowed to pass through the strait, subject to approval from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.

The US-Israel war on Iran, which began on February 28, has killed more than 3,000 people. During the conflict, Iran blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

The United States later imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in the strait and the Gulf after talks between Washington and Tehran in Pakistan failed to reach a breakthrough.
