TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of 180 Iranian lawmakers urged the country's leaders to announce the cancellation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, Fars news agency reported.
As quoted by ANTARA, hundreds of Iranian lawmakers issued a statement calling for retaliatory measures, the cancellation of the MoU with the U.S., the formation of a special commission to investigate negotiations with the U.S., the passage of a law on the management of the Strait of Hormuz, and comprehensive support for Iran's armed forces, the news agency reported on Tuesday, July 14.
On June 18, the U.S. and Iran signed an MoU stipulating a cessation of hostilities that began on February 28. However, on July 8, U.S. forces launched another airstrike against Iran.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the attack was in response to Iran's actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces retaliated by launching attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
