IRGC: Strait of Hormuz Will Never Return to Its Former State

4 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy declared on Sunday, April 5, that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its previous state, specifically for the United States and Israel. Tehran is implementing security arrangements in the Persian Gulf aimed at excluding parties it deems hostile.

"The Strait of Hormuz will never return to its former state, especially for the US and Israel," the statement said in a post on the social media platform X, as reported by Anadolu.

The Navy added that it is currently in the final stages of operational preparations for what Iranian officials are calling a "new order for the Persian Gulf."

This announcement follows closely after an Iranian parliamentary committee approved a bill that would impose transit fees on vessels navigating through the strategic waterway.

According to Iranian media reports, the proposal includes a mandate for transit fees to be paid in Iran's national currency, the rial, alongside a transit ban for U.S. and Israeli ships and restrictions on nations participating in unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

The draft legislation also outlines provisions regarding Iran’s sovereignty over the straits, the authority of its armed forces, maritime security, environmental protection, and legal cooperation with Oman.

Regional tensions have escalated sharply since a joint U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

As self-defense, Iran retaliated with a wave of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting U.S. military assets, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and widespread disruption to global markets and aviation.
