TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung paid a personal visit to students suffering from free nutritious meal (MBG) poisoning at the Duren Sawit Regional Special Hospital (RSKD) in East Jakarta on Saturday, April 4, 2026. He offered assurances that the Jakarta Provincial Government is providing swift and optimal medical care to every affected student.
Pramono stated that the food suspected of causing the illness originated from the SPPG Pondok Kelapa II kitchen in East Jakarta. The incident impacted students across four schools: SMAN 91, SDN Pondok Kelapa 01, SDN Pondok Kelapa 07, and SDN Pondok Kelapa 09.
"We are moving quickly to ensure that the conditions of the affected students are well taken care of. Up to this point, the number of patients treated across three hospitals, namely RSKD Duren Sawit, RS Pondok Kopi, and RS Harum, stands at 72 people," Pramono noted in an official statement.
Additionally, Pramono mentioned that several other students sought medical attention at hospitals but did not require formal admission. "They have been allowed to return home," he confirmed.
He emphasized that the provincial government will continue to monitor the progress of the students, including those still under inpatient care and observation, to ensure they receive maximum treatment until fully recovered.
"The symptoms generally include fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. However, the patients' conditions are currently relatively stable. We hope the recovery process can be completed within one to two days so these children can return to their daily lives," he said.
Beyond securing health services, the Jakarta Provincial Government has coordinated with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) regarding the next steps in handling the crisis. Following BGN’s directive, all medical and recovery costs for the victims will be fully covered by the agency.
"We have coordinated with the National Nutrition Agency. The main focus at this time is to ensure that all students are well taken care of and that their families are not burdened with medical costs," Pramono added.
The Jakarta Provincial Government further noted that the BGN has partnered with the East Jakarta Health Office to conduct tracing to pinpoint the exact cause of the incident. This investigation is expected to clarify the diagnosis and serve as a foundation for further evaluation.
Separately, the BGN stated that operations at SPPG Pondok Kelapa II have been temporarily suspended pending an evaluation. The agency is currently preparing further measures, including securing alternative service providers to ensure the MBG program continues for other beneficiary schools.
