TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will award a substantial prize to the winners of a competition aimed at solving Jakarta's waste and traffic issues. The competition will be held to commemorate Jakarta's 500th anniversary, which falls on June 22, 2027.

"The prize will definitely be attractive, and if necessary, we will facilitate Gen Z to see the world, whether it's visiting Beijing, New York, and so on," he said in his speech at Jakarta Creative Hub on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Pramono stated that the competition is aimed at Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012. The prize is for the first and second place winners.

He mentioned that the competition aims to understand the perspectives of Gen Z in solving the issues of waste and traffic jams in Jakarta. The competition will be open for 2 months.

Jakarta faces a waste problem, generating around 8,000 tons of waste daily. Much of the waste ends up at the Bantargebang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Bekasi, which still uses an open dumping system.

Furthermore, despite the continuous development of public transportation by the provincial government, the use of private transportation contributes to the traffic jams in Jakarta.

Pramono Anung mentioned that Gen Z tends to have "definite" desires, hence the competition to find solutions for waste and traffic jams was created. "So, we hereby declare that the prize will definitely be attractive," he said.
