TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of foreign tourists rescued following flash floods in Nepal has risen to 261, while 320 others remain unreachable, the country's tourism department said on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
"As of 18:00 [12:15 GMT] on August 29, 2026, a total of 261 foreign nationals/tourists have been rescued," the department stated on X as cited by Antara.
Meanwhile, authorities have been unable to contact another 320 people.
Those rescued include nationals from India, China, Spain, the United States, Russia, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, and Switzerland. The nationalities of 21 other individuals have not yet been confirmed.
Flash floods swept through northern Nepal on the morning of Wednesday, August 26, after a massive surge of water from China struck the Bhote Koshi River.
The flooding occurred following an earthquake that triggered landslides. According to the latest data, more than 2,000 people are reported missing.
