Prabowo Decides to Join BoP After Talks with Gulf Leaders

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that he decided to make Indonesia a member of the Board of Peace (BoP) after a lengthy process and discussions with heads of Gulf countries.

Citing Antara, the Central Leadership Chair of Muhammadiyah for Economics, Business, and Halal Industry, Muhadjir Effendy, said that Prabowo made the statement during an iftar gathering with Muslim scholars, community organization leaders, and Islamic boarding school leaders in the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday evening, March 5, 2026.

"He emphasized that his involvement in the BoP was not immediate but rather a long process. He discussed it with several heads of state in the region, particularly in the Gulf, who agreed to join," said Muhadjir.

During the three-hour meeting, President Prabowo provided a detailed explanation of Indonesia's membership in the BoP, particularly in light of the escalating conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Muhadjir said that Prabowo emphasized that his involvement in the Board of Peace was a chosen strategy, which he called "strategy from within." Prabowo chose this strategy as part of Indonesia's efforts to promote peace and recognize Palestinian independence within the BoP forum.

"The strategy he chose is called a 'strategy from within.' After being on the outside for so long, we're now trying to fight from within," said Muhadjir.

However, he believes that Prabowo's decision to join the BoP is constitutional and aligns with the 1945 Constitution's emphasis on Palestinian independence. Additionally, the Indonesian government is committed to achieving peace through a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel, as well as the points of agreement in the Board of Peace.

"We must continue our efforts, whatever the risks and consequences, to ensure the realization of an independent Palestine. This is clearly stated in the 20-point agreement, points 19 and 20 of which clearly state that the goal of the BoP is to create a Palestinian state coexisting with Israel," he said.
