TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, stated that the recovery of educational facilities is a priority program for the Ministry of Religion in handling the disasters that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The Ministry of Religion has allocated Rp35 billion to repair hundreds of schools damaged by floods and landslides last November.

According to Nasaruddin, the funds will be disbursed directly today. "We will depart for Aceh. There is approximately Rp 26 billion in assistance prepared," he said as quoted from the Ministry of Religion's website on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

He explained that the damage to religious educational facilities in Aceh and Sumatra is significant, including 470 madrasahs, 322 Islamic boarding schools, and 13 State Religious Colleges. In addition to cash, he stated that his ministry will also provide several assets owned by the Ministry of Religion in the form of endowments. "The distribution of assistance is also carried out selectively and in coordination with the central and regional governments," he said.

In addition to educational facilities under the Ministry of Religion, the disasters that swept through three provinces also destroyed thousands of public schools under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. As of Sunday, December 14, 2025, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti reported that at least 3,274 schools were damaged.

The affected thousands of schools include 767 early childhood education units, 1,343 primary schools, 621 junior high schools, 268 senior high schools, 236 vocational high schools, 23 community learning centers (PKBMs), 30 special needs schools, and 86 training and course institutions.

Furthermore, the General Secretary of Muhammadiyah reported that overall, the disaster has affected 275,248 students and 25,936 teachers. These figures are cumulative for all levels of education in the three provinces.

The Ministry of Education, Mu'ti said, has provided emergency classrooms and distributed several learning equipment to support education during this emergency response. "There is a need for 2,873 emergency classrooms. The need for learning equipment or school kits is 141,335, and family kits are 16,239," he said during the Full Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, December 15, 2025.
