TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - London is directly involved in the conflict by allowing U.S. aircraft to operate from bases in the UK in its attacks on Iran, Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin told RIA Novosti.
In early March, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that London had agreed to a U.S. request to use its military bases to attack Iranian missile depots.
As reported by Antara, Kelin dismissed claims that the UK is staying out of the conflict, criticizing what he described as the country’s portrayal of providing only limited “defensive” support to its allies while advocating for diplomacy, and questioned the credibility of that stance.
He further argued that, despite what he described as the British public’s naivety, allowing the United States to launch attacks on Iran from UK bases and deploy military aircraft to the region amounts to direct complicity, regardless of how Keir Starmer frames it, adding that he believes Iran’s leadership is fully aware of the situation.
He said that the UK has tried to incite as many countries as possible against Iran.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched attacks on multiple targets in Iran, including Tehran. The attacks caused damage and civilian casualties.
In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities in the Middle East.
Initially, the U.S. and Israel claimed that their “preventive” strikes were necessary to counter the perceived threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program. However, they then emphasized that they wanted to overthrow the Iranian government.
