TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) estimates that the national rice production in 2025 will reach 34.77 million tons. This figure shows a 13.54 percent increase, or 4.15 million tons, compared to last year's total rice production.
Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS, Pudji Ismartini, stated that the increase refers to the Subround III rice production projection (September-December 2025), which is estimated to reach 9.50 million tons. She mentioned that this number increased by 0.76 million tons, an 8.73 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Pudji explained that an increase in rice production depends on the potential for expanding rice-planting areas. She stated that throughout January-December 2025, the planting area is estimated to reach 11.35 million hectares, an increase of 1.30 million hectares compared to last year.
"The largest increase occurred in Subround I, which recorded a 25.82 percent increase in planting area," said Pudji during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, November 3, 2025.
The BPS noted that potential rice production in Subround III is expected to reach 16.48 million tons of paddy this year, an increase of 1.32 million tons compared to last year's figures for the same period. In general, national rice production is estimated to reach 60.34 million tons of paddy in 2025, a 13.55 percent increase compared to 2024.
Pudji added that the largest increase in rice production occurred in Subround I, which grew by 26.57 percent. However, she emphasized that the potential production figures could change depending on planting conditions until the end of the year. These conditions include pest infestations, floods, droughts, and farmers' harvest times.
The BPS also noted the potential harvest from October to December 2025, which is concentrated in several major rice-producing regions. In Java Island, the concentrated rice-producing areas include West Java, Central Java, and East Java. In Sumatra, they are located in Lampung, Aceh, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra. Meanwhile, in the eastern region, the largest potential harvest is found in South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Kalimantan.
