TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Sumatra Regional Police have opened a free motorcycle repair service for residents affected by floods in Agam Regency. The service is available at several disaster points.
"The free service is available at all disaster points. Specifically in Agam, we are open at Tiku, Tanjung Mutiara Sub-District, Kayu Pasak, Palembayan Sub-District, Sitinjau Lawik, Padang City, Lembah Anai, and others," said West Sumatra Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Solihin, quoted from a written statement on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Solihin stated that the service is a policy from the West Sumatra Police Chief, considering that many motorcycles belonging to residents are damaged, covered in mud, and submerged. "The Police Chief ordered the opening of this service to repair the residents' vehicles," he said.
The services provided include minor repairs for damaged motorcycles, oil changes, and the replacement of damaged parts. According to the police data, residents have registered 70 units of their motorcycles, and only about 20 units have received the service.
Since November 24, 2025, heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted an increase in the number of casualties in Sumatra. Based on data as of December 18 at 06.20, the death toll from the three affected provinces reached 1,059 people. The number of fatalities increased by nine people from the previous day's BNPB data.
This number is still potentially increasing. BNPB recorded that 192 people are still missing after more than three weeks of handling the Sumatra disasters. BNPB also reported that more than 7,000 people suffered injuries.
Specifically for Aceh Province, BNPB Head Suharyanto requested that President Prabowo Subianto increase the number of personnel assisting with disaster relief. According to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Suharyanto requested additional personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
"BNPB reported and requested additional personnel, especially from the TNI and the Police, in some areas in Aceh," said the President's spokesperson in West Sumatra on Thursday, December 18, 2025, as monitored from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
