Bais TNI Chief Profile as Soldiers Linked to Andrie Yunus Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TNI Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo serves as the Chief of the Strategic Intelligence Agency of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Bais TNI) when the Vice Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, was attacked with acid. Later, Yudi resigned from his position.

Yudi graduated from the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy in 1989. According to Tempo Magazine edition of March 29, 2026, Yudi is known to follow in the footsteps of his father, Major General (Retired) Yusman Yutam. He graduated from the National Military Academy in 1965 and also served in the Special Forces Command (Kopassus).

From 2016 to 2018, Yudi held the rank of colonel. He served as an assistant officer in the A-5 Directorate of Bais. This position focused on the processing of strategic intelligence products.

The A Directorate of Bais is responsible for investigating various discourses, ranging from ideology, politics, economy, to social and cultural aspects of society. The results will be used to analyze the situation in Indonesia and will be linked to national defense.

Yudi's military career has been illustrious, like his father's. When Prabowo Subianto led the Ministry of Defense, Yudi served as the Secretary of the Directorate General of Defense Strategy. He then became the head of the Strategic Defense Installation Agency in the ministry from 2021 to 2024.

The number of stars on his shoulders increased when he took the position of Chief of Bais TNI, replacing Lieutenant General Rudianto. At that time, Rudianto was rotated to become TNI Academy's Commander of the General.

However, not even two years into his tenure as the Chief of Bais, Yudi declared his resignation. On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the Chief of the TNI Information Center, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that Yudi had stepped down. "As a form of accountability," he said.

Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by unknown individuals in the Salemba Street area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. Andrie suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body as a result of the incident. The TNI Military Police Center detained four active-duty soldiers from the Bais TNI unit who are suspected of being involved.
