TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri clinched the Japan Open 2026 title after defeating South Korea's Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in straight games on Sunday.
Playing in the final at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Fajar/Fikri overcame the South Korean duo 21-19, 21-17 to secure the BWF Super 750 tournament crown.
Fajar/Fikri Hold Nerve in Tight First Game
Fajar/Fikri started the opening game by trying to control the pace, but Kim/Seo responded with an attacking approach that created a closely contested battle.
The South Korean pair capitalized on key moments to take an 10-8 lead midway through the first game.
After the interval, Fajar/Fikri became more patient in dealing with Kim/Seo's aggressive style. The Indonesian duo gradually turned the match around by scoring three consecutive points to move ahead 19-16.
Maintaining their composure, Fajar/Fikri closed out the first game 21-19.
Indonesia Pair Seal Title in Second Game
In the second game, Fajar/Fikri immediately took the initiative and built an early 6-4 advantage.
They extended their lead after producing a four-point streak to enter the interval ahead 11-8.
Kim/Seo fought back after the break and pushed the game into another tight contest, leveling the score at 17-17.
However, Fajar/Fikri stayed composed in the closing stages, winning four straight points to seal the game 21-17 and secure the championship.
The victory marks an important confidence boost for Fajar/Fikri ahead of the remaining tournaments this year, especially after defeating the world's top-ranked men's doubles pair.
Their triumph also ensured Indonesia would not leave the BWF Super 750 event empty-handed.
