TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Speculation surrounding Sadie Sink's mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has intensified after a recent red-carpet interview appeared to hint that the Stranger Things actress could be portraying one of Marvel's most iconic mutants: Jean Grey.
Marvel Studios has not officially revealed Sink's character, and promotional materials continue to keep her identity under wraps. However, comments made by musician Steve Lacy, whose song appears on the film's soundtrack, have fueled fresh discussion among Marvel fans.
According to For The Win, Lacy was asked during a red-carpet interview which character in the film was his favorite. He replied, "Jean," adding that she was "the villain but there's a reason to her madness."
Although Lacy did not explicitly mention Jean Grey or connect the character to Sink, many fans interpreted the remark as a possible hint. Others pointed out that the film also includes another Marvel character named Detective Jean DeWolff, portrayed by Liza Colón-Zayas, meaning Lacy's comment may not necessarily refer to the X-Men heroine.
The speculation gained further momentum after actor Ryan Reynolds appeared at San Diego Comic-Con wearing a Deadpool costume bearing the name "Jean Grey," prompting fans to wonder whether it was another playful tease ahead of Marvel's next phase.
Who Is Jean Grey?
Jean Grey is one of the original members of the X-Men and among Marvel Comics' most powerful mutants. She first appeared in X-Men #1, published in 1963, and has remained a central figure in the franchise for more than six decades.

Jean Grey has previously been portrayed by two actresses in Fox's X-Men film series.
- Famke Janssen played the character in the original X-Men trilogy.
- Sophie Turner later portrayed a younger Jean Grey in the prequel films, including Dark Phoenix (2019).
Neither portrayal is currently part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
Could Jean Grey Join the MCU?
Marvel Studios has not confirmed whether Jean Grey will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day or whether Sadie Sink has been cast in the role.
