TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed his desire to retire as a state official after stepping down as Indonesian Finance Minister. He was officially replaced by his deputy, Suahasil Nazara, in a cabinet reshuffle on Monday afternoon, September 14, 2026.
Purbaya conveyed this after the handover process at the Ministry of Finance office on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. "No, not at all," he said when asked about the interest in returning to office.
Purbaya has also not yet outlined his plans. The minister, who was removed from his position on Monday, September 14, 2026, said he will retire for now.
He even joked that he would go fishing after no longer being the Finance Minister. "After this, I want to go home, fish at the back of the house. I have a pond, so I can fish at the back of the house while daydreaming, 'Why was I fired?'", he said.

The former Minister, a graduate of Purdue University, USA, admitted that he did not know the reason for his dismissal. Some speculate that his decision to rotate officials at the Ministry of Finance was one of the triggers. When asked, Purbaya admitted that the issue was part of the reason for his dismissal.
Purbaya admitted to feeling relieved after officially relinquishing his position. "Because last night I still had trouble sleeping, I was still upset. But now it's much better," said Purbaya.
