TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia is maintaining relatively high economic growth despite ongoing global challenges.
He referred to projections from international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Bank, which estimate global growth at 2.6–3.3 percent.
In comparison, Indonesia recorded growth of 5.11 percent in 2025, among the highest in the G20.
“The projection for this year’s economic growth is above 5.3 percent, and in the first quarter, we are optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth will reach around 5.5 percent,” Airlangga said during a Media Briefing on Economic Updates and Reform Measures at the Government Communication Bureau on Monday, April 13, 2026.
According to him, Indonesia’s economic resilience is supported by strong domestic demand driven by household consumption, investment, and government spending, as well as external sector stability, policy discipline, and institutional coordination.
Household consumption remains the main driver, contributing around 54 percent to gross domestic product (GDP). He also noted that the Mandiri Spending Index remains strong at 360.7.
In the food sector, national rice production is projected to reach around 34.7 million tons, while rice reserves stand at nearly 4.6 million tons, one of the highest levels recorded.
In the energy sector, Airlangga said the government continues to promote self-sufficiency through the B50 program, with an energy surplus of 4.84 million kiloliters.
He added that Indonesia entered the second quarter of 2026 in a strong position, reflected in controlled inflation, a trade surplus extending for 70 consecutive months, and strong consumer confidence.
The manufacturing sector remains in expansion territory with an index of 50.1. Foreign exchange reserves are also solid at US$148.2 billion, while the banking sector remains stable with strong capital adequacy and controlled credit risk.
