TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Madonna, Shakira, and BTS are set to headline the inaugural halftime show at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, FIFA announced on Wednesday night.
As reported by Variety on Wednesday, May 13, local time, the announcement was made via a teaser video featuring Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin alongside Elmo and several iconic Muppets, including Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog.
In the video, Martin and Elmo are seen selecting Madonna, Shakira, and BTS as the marquee performers for the halftime show at the tournament’s final.
FIFA also stated that proceeds from the performance will benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a US$100 million initiative aimed at expanding access to education and football for children across the globe.
The 2026 World Cup Final is scheduled to take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The World Cup final is widely regarded as one of the most-watched sporting events on the planet, with the 2022 edition estimated to have drawn more than 500 million live viewers worldwide.
FIFA previously road-tested the halftime entertainment concept during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which featured performances by Doja Cat, Tems, and J Balvin. Those three artists were also handpicked by Chris Martin.
The last World Cup hosted by the United States in 1994 remains the most-attended edition in the tournament's history. For the 2026 iteration, the matches will kick off on June 11 and will be broadcast in the United States on Fox Sports and Telemundo.
