TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cambodian government has waived the overstay fines for 460 Indonesian nationals, according to the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.

"The Cambodian Immigration Authority has emphasized that Indonesian citizens who have received a waiver of their fines must immediately purchase return flights to Indonesia no later than the end of April 2026," according to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh received in Jakarta by Antara on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

According to the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, with the addition of hundreds of Indonesian citizens, a total of 4,677 Indonesian citizens have received waivers of fines for overstaying their visas in Cambodia.

The waiving of overstay fines has accelerated the repatriation process.

In addition to exempting Indonesian citizens from paying a fine of US$10 (Rp171,000) per day, the Indonesian Embassy stated that the policy also shortens the deportation process, which under normal circumstances can take more than six months.

The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also strives to optimize the issuance of travel documents in the form of a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP) for Indonesian citizens without passports. To date, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has issued 2,653 SPLPs to facilitate the smooth repatriation process.

The Indonesian Embassy stated that over the past three months, it has facilitated the repatriation of 3,159 Indonesian citizens to Indonesia.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also announced that on April 7, the Cambodian Government passed the Anti-Cyber Scam Law, which pledges fines up to US$500,000 (Rp8.5 billion) and up to life imprisonment for online scammers.

The Indonesian Embassy also reiterated its appeal to all Indonesian citizens to be wary of job offers abroad, particularly in Cambodia, that promise high salaries with unreasonable requirements. The embassy urged citizens to carefully verify all information before working overseas.
