Dortmund Beat Arsenal 3-2 to Win Emirates Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Arsenal vs. Dortmund match in the 2026 Emirates Cup pre-season tournament ended in a narrow 2-3 victory for the visiting Borussia Dortmund side at the Emirates Stadium in London.

As reported by Antara, the Gunners fell three goals behind before managing to reduce the deficit through Ethan Nwaneri and Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal, the reigning 2025/26 Premier League champions, fielded several key players from the start. Martin Odegaard anchored the midfield, while Viktor Gyokeres led the attack.

For Dortmund, Jobe Bellingham and Felix Nmecha occupied the midfield, with Fabio Silva playing as the striker.

Dortmund stunned the hosts early on, taking the lead in the 7th minute through Samuele Inacio, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Arsenal.

Dortmund doubled their lead in the 29th minute. Konstantinos Karetsas got on the scoresheet, giving Niko Kovac's team a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Arsenal attempted a comeback after the break. Ethan Nwaneri pulled a goal back in the 54th minute, converting a pass from Christos Tzolis.

However, Dortmund extended their lead again four minutes later. Center-back Joane Gadou scored in the 58th minute following a corner kick, making it 3-1.

Arsenal regained momentum after being awarded a penalty in the 69th minute following a foul on Christos Tzolis. Viktor Gyokeres stepped up to take the spot-kick and successfully converted it, bringing the score to 2-3.

Mikel Arteta then made several substitutions in search of an equalizer. Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus came on in the 78th minute, replacing Gyokeres and Tzolis.

Arsenal continued to press the Dortmund defense for the remainder of the match. However, The Gunners' efforts failed to yield any further goals, and the match ended with Dortmund securing a 3-2 victory.

Despite the loss in regulation time, Arsenal won the penalty shootout held after the match as part of the Emirates Cup format. Arsenal goalkeeper Illan Meslier proved decisive by saving Dortmund's fourth penalty, taken by 17-year-old American player Mathis Albert. Arsenal ultimately won the shootout 5-4.

Following this match, Arsenal have one remaining pre-season game against Como 1907 on Thursday (August 13). Afterward, The Gunners will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday (August 16).
