TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - When he visited the home of former president Joko Widodo in Solo, Central Java, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Bestari Barus was asked a question by his host. The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Head of Political Affairs was asked about the readiness of the party's offices and apparatuses in the regions ahead of the factual verification process to be conducted by the General Elections Commission (KPU) in August 2027.
Bestari explained that more party members and regional leaders have recently been inaugurated by PSI General Chair Kaesang Pangarep, the youngest son of Jokowi. Many of the new PSI officials across regions came from other parties.
"Most of them are from NasDem," Bestari said, recounting the meeting to Tempo on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Bestari is a former National Democrat (NasDem) politician and served as the party's Faction Chair in the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) from 2014 to 2019.
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Jokowi's aide, Police Commissioner Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah, asked whether Tempo had spoken with Bestari about the meeting. "I'm monitoring," he said in a text message.
