TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social media platform X has fulfilled its obligation to pay an administrative fine of nearly Rp80 million to the Indonesian government.
The fine was imposed after the platform, owned by Elon Musk, failed to promptly comply with its obligation to moderate pornographic content.
“The administrative fine was paid by X on December 12, 2025, after we issued a third warning letter and held further communication with the company,” said Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital, in a written statement issued on December 13, 2025.
Alexander explained that following intensive communication, X responded via email by officially appointing a representative to follow up on the payment process in accordance with the stipulated regulations.
“This step reflects the compliance of electronic system providers with applicable regulations, as part of efforts to ensure Indonesia’s digital space remains safe, healthy, and productive,” he said.
All administrative fines paid by X were processed through official mechanisms and deposited directly into the state treasury under the management of the Ministry of Finance, in line with prevailing laws and regulations.
Alexander emphasized that the enforcement of digital platform regulations, both for domestic and global companies, is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to protect the public, particularly children and vulnerable groups, from exposure to harmful content in the digital space.
Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital had issued a third warning letter to X for failing to pay the administrative fine related to its negligence in addressing reports of pornographic content submitted since September 12, 2025.
