TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian regular hajj pilgrims who were previously in Madinah have now arrived in Mecca ahead of the peak of the hajj rites in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina or Armuzna. The government has begun concentrating its efforts to strengthen services in Mecca to support the pilgrims' readiness for the core phase of the hajj pilgrimage.
The spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Suci Annisa, claimed that as of the 26th day of hajj operations, services for Indonesian pilgrims have been running smoothly, orderly, and well-managed. The government has started to concentrate its efforts to strengthen services in Mecca in anticipation of the peak of the hajj pilgrimage.
"All Indonesian regular hajj pilgrims are now in Mecca. This is an important phase as all service efforts are now focused to ensure the pilgrims are ready to face the peak of the hajj rites in a safe, orderly, and comfortable manner," said Suci in a press release on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Armuzna, an acronym for Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina, are the three main locations for the culmination of the hajj rites that take place every year. The set of rituals in these areas usually span over several days, as pilgrims move from one location to another to perform the essential hajj rituals.
According to the latest operational data, a total of 430 flight groups with 166,269 pilgrims and 1,717 officers have been dispatched to Saudi Arabia. Out of this total, 418 groups with 161,591 pilgrims and 1,672 officers have arrived in Mecca. Meanwhile, the number of special hajj pilgrims who have arrived in Saudi Arabia has reached 11,739.
Suci stated that the completion of the pilgrims' transfer from Madinah to Mecca was also accompanied by the relocation of officers to strengthen services in Mecca and Armuzna. The reinforcement includes transportation, accommodation, food, healthcare, pilgrim protection, and spiritual guidance.
"When all pilgrims are concentrated in Mecca, service strengthening is also centered in Mecca and Armuzna," she said.
The Ministry of Hajj, together with the Hajj Service Organizers (PPIH), is currently finalizing the readiness of Armuzna, ranging from the finalization of the manifest data, mapping the movement of pilgrims, readiness of buses and tents, distribution of meals, healthcare services, and mitigation of protection for the elderly, people with disabilities, and high-risk individuals.
The Indonesian government also reminds the pilgrims to take care of their health and to reduce outdoor activities outside the hotel before Armuzna. On the other hand, the Non-Procedural Hajj Prevention Task Force has thwarted the departure of 32 Indonesian citizens at Soekarno-Hatta Airport until May 15, 2026, who were suspected of attempting to perform hajj without an official visa.
