Search for the Next James Bond Officially Begins

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The search for the next James Bond actor has officially begun, Amazon MGM Studios announced in a statement on social media on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” Amazon MGM Studio said in a social media post.

However, Deadline reported that full auditions are still expected to take place in the near future. Amazon MGM Studios has also confirmed a deal with Nina Gold to serve as casting director for the next James Bond film. She is widely regarded as one of the most respected casting directors in the industry, with a strong track record.

Among her credits over the years are HBO’s Game of Thrones, Netflix’s The Crown, and five Star Wars franchise films. Most recently, she received an Oscar nomination for her work on Hamnet.

Candidates for the Role of James Bond

According to Variety, British actor Tom Francis has auditioned for the role of James Bond. He is among several actors competing for the part. However, both Francis’ representatives and Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment.

Francis previously won an Olivier Award for his performance in Sunset Boulevard, which was also nominated for a Tony Award. However, his on-screen experience remains limited, with small roles in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly and Peter Berg’s The Mosquito Bowl.

Other names widely rumored to succeed Daniel Craig as Agent 007 include Jacob Elordi, known for Euphoria and Frankenstein; Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred in Godzilla and won a Golden Globe for Nocturnal Animals; and Eternity actor Callum Turner.

Another reported contender is Cosmo Jarvis, who appeared in the miniseries Shgun. However, Jarvis’ representative has denied his involvement, saying: “Cosmo is not in the mix for the role of James Bond and is not auditioning for it.”

Production Team for the New James Bond Film

According to People, the upcoming James Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve following his success with the Dune franchise. Producers will be Amy Pascal and David Heyman, working through Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films.

Meanwhile, Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer. Steven Knight, known for creating the TV series Peaky Blinders, will write the screenplay for the new James Bond film.
